LOCKDOWN MODE

Open the **Lockdown Mode** page on the fly from the Control Center! All this shortcut does is open **Settings App → Privacy & Security → Lockdown Mode**. Unfortunately you cannot actually *enter* Lockdown Mode from a shortcut, but this Control Center button greatly reduces the amount of time it takes lock down your phone. You don’t need to remember where Lockdown Mode is located or scroll up and down the Settings app. You can also trigger the shortcut with Siri. Lockdown Mode isn’t just useful for avoiding spyware and remote access. It also protects you from police surveillance tools like Stingray (by blocking connections to 2G/3G networks) and data extraction tools like Cellebrite and GrayKey (by blocking all physical device connections while your phone is locked). Recent court filings show that the FBI failed to extract data from the seized iPhone of a Washington Post journalist due to her having LockDown mode enabled. **WARNING:** Enabling Lockdown Mode requires entering your passcode. If you’re in public, be mindful of surveillance cameras that can capture your passcode entry, even from afar. It’s best to enable Lockdown Mode BEFORE you attend a high-risk event like a protest or a border crossing. If you’re at an airport, find a public restroom to enter Lockdown Mode without exposing your passcode to cameras.
